Type A waterproofing systems are barrier membranes or waterproof coats are applied directly to the building structure. The membrane can be applied inside or outside the building to prevent fee water entering the building.
Examples of barrier membranes applied to the positive side of the building, (the outside of a building is known as the “positive” side and the inside is known as the “negative” side) are bonded sheet membrane, sodium bentonite matting and liquid applied coatings (cementitious/bitumen or polymer). On the negative side of the building, in the lower section beneath the ground, similar approaches can be adopted to hold water back. Examples of these are cementitious coatings and bitumen or polymer-based liquids applied via spray, trowel, brush or roller.
The geotextile is laminated to the membrane to provide a dual function; protecting the membrane from damage, and providing an integrated ‘bond’ to poured concrete. This membrane ensures a fully bonded waterproofing barrier which has exceptionally high resistance to ground gas and VOCs.
External Type A membrane is used for the gas / VOC / waterproofing of underground structured where harmful ground gasses are anticipated, as a pre applied fully bonded membrane.
Type A Memberance is a high performance, hydrocarbon barrier, manufactured from a unique HDPE resin. The primary membrane has excellent chemical resistance and is ideal for use on sites affected by hydrocarbon and VOC contamination. It will also effectively prevent the ingress of a number of other harmful gases, including radon, methane and carbon dioxide.
External Type A Membrane is used for the Gas/waterproofing/tanking of underground structures where harmful ground gases are anticipated.
Radon, ground gas, vapour, air and moisture barrier characteristic properties:
GP® TITANBOND® should be installed in accordance with the product installation guidelines, and in accordance with best practice
A selection of standard details for information and education purposes only. Note – it is strongly advised appropriately qualified, and insured personnel undertake gas membrane installs. A gas membrane performs a critical function in the application setting and has an anticipated design service life in excess of 60 years. Do not attempt to install gas membranes from these details alone. .

RASCOR’s engineers analyze the waterproofed scheme in terms of structural design, groundwater/gravitational water conditions, and facility size.
Full responsibility is assumed for key aspects of design, including the minimum shrinkage reinforcement, joint layout and concreting workmanship.
Our engineers provide advice on and actively supervise the incorporation of the RASCOR White Tank waterproof concrete basement system.
Quality assurance is essential to the achievement of the agreed standards of workmanship. These activities are performed continuously up to acceptance/handover and the start of the defects liability period.
