One of the most spectacular makeover in Claridge’s History. The Landmark Mayfair Hotel dug 33m beneath Brook Street to create the most glamorous basement extension in the world. The owners wanted to enhance its service offering and create a space for a spa, swimming pool and cinema to be created deep into the grounds all while the hotel continued with its daily operations.
Projects like Claridges need to remain sympathetic to the existing architecture of the building and surrounding areas. From our design team to site operatives the Rascor team remained functional to cause as little disruption as possible.
Secant piles were installed around the perimeter of the site between the existing piles. The new sub basement and lower ground floor were constructed inside the piled walls on all sides lined with a water-excluding RASCOtank external type B system and propped at the ground floor and basement levels by the reinforced concrete construction.
The Primary solution for waterproofing this structure was the RASCOtank system which are cast and set during concreting to control crack shrinkage and subsequent injected with acrylic grout which will guarantee prevention of any water ingress from entering the structure.
For more than a century, Claridge’s has preserved it’s unique heritage adding modern flourishes throughout it’s lifetime. In an incredible feet of engineering, we are proud to support McGee as they undertook this project to create new space for Claridges renowned guests.
